By: Troy Firebrace

Medium: acrylic

Bio: Yorta Yorta/ Dja Dja Wurrung man working as the artist and director of Firebrace Designs Pty Ltd. I also work as the Aboriginal Education Officer for Catholic Education Sandhurst. My passion for arts and education form the bases of my career, having completed a Bachelor of Arts, Major in Fine Arts and looking to moving into a Masters of Education, I strive to enact change within the education sector through better understanding of culture whilst utilising my art practice, in the contemporary form, to explore new and exciting ways to create works that express not only my culture but also my identity as an artist.

Artist Statement: This work is about the deconstruction of the perfect shape, the notion that everything has to be in a symmetrical way. living in this world holds back our natural being to living in our own way, an imperfect way. Thus the symmetrical shape of the card has been taken over by the imperfect line work, that branch work of nature and the uncontrollable shift in colours. Here the deconstruction of the symmetrical starts so that natural decay can begin.
