Title: The weaver

Bio:French-born artist Lucy Lucy, immigrated to Australia in 2006 and currently resides in Melbourne. She has established herself as a prominent figure in the Australian urban art community, specializing in large-scale mural painting for over a decade. Her work involves collaborations with city councils, corporate clients as well as community organizations such as Creatives Mullum Mullum Women, St Vincent Care, McAuley Women both in Australia and Europe. Lucy Lucy’s practice has also extended to creating digital and physical artworks for brands such as Nike, Dr. Martens, and Fed Square. 

Throughout her creative career, she has engaged in numerous collaborations, including her early involvement with the Awol crew in 2006. This path has led her to explore performance art, weaving, photography, and fashion design, anchoring her work in multiculturalism. 

Lucy Lucy is a figurative painter whose art explores the evolving narrative of femininity. She portrays women as symbols of social change, resilience, and reconciliation. Her artwork is characterized by an elegant fusion of colours, textures, and patterns, prompting reflection on a potential alternative narrative that values nurturing and caring.

Artist Statement: Lucy’s work explores the connection between women and their associated weaving craft, all interwoven into the fabric of civilization itself. The painting is a bright tribute to the women who worked in the shadow of historical events. It also inquires about a potential alternative narrative closer to the spirit of the delicate art of weaving itself in which nurturing would be predominantly valued. 

 The excess of tartan patterns in the painting emphasizes the art of warp and weft in order to overwhelm the viewer with shapes and colours bursting to reveal the magnitude and beauty of the weaver’s sway.
