Title: Bad Mood

Bio: Liam Snootle is a visual artist with a background in Mathematics and graffiti working in Melbourne, Australia. Predominantly working with painting and urban installation pieces, Snootle’s work can be categorised as a visual response to sound or in contrast an attempt at creating an aural experience via visual stimulus. Influenced by both the Abstraction frontrunners of the 50’s as well as East Coast American alternative music of the 80’s and 90’s, Snootle is interested in the combination of colour and shape and how these are able to trigger an emotional response in the viewer; often painting geometric interpretations of songs. Using a language of shapes as his alphabet he encourages the viewer to allow the work to provide lateral balance, recall a memory, a sound, an idea or previous experiences and provide time to contemplate and celebrate those moments.

Artwork Statement: ‘Bad Mood’ was a painting made when I was exploring my interpretations of post war artists such as Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Indiana, Bridget Riley, Christopher Wool and Frank Stella. This was my take on a signature piece by Carmen Herrera. It was subsequently used as the label by Range Life Wines for their Prosecco, ’Sparkle Hard’. For a wine label to be named after my favourite band, Pavement, was an opportunity I could not miss. I’ve wanted to release this as a print for years now and Just Another’s ‘Release It II’, provides that exact opportunity. I hope you like it.
