Bio: Exploring colour, form, and shape through the lens of symbolism, typography, geometry, and conceptualism, HWJ’s style has been described as a language of typographic abstraction. Stemming from an interest in indigenous cultures as well as his own Māori heritage, HWJ’s symbolism is influenced by traditional forms of mark making and pattern work. Expressing this through a wide range of subject matter and creative disciplines, his work encompasses geometric exploration, post typography, traditional and conceptual realism, and architectural subjects.

Working out of the Artshole studio in Caulfield South, Victoria, his current creative practice includes private commissions, solo exhibitions, group and collaborative exhibitions, murals, illustration, animation, moving vision, and outdoor installations.

HWJ is a Melbourne-based multi-disciplinary artist, designer and illustrator originating from West Gippsland, Victoria. His work has appeared in the streets and galleries of London and New York as well as across Australia.
