Artist: Samy Baby
Title: Found Object
Bio: Multi-disciplinary artist, Samy Baby has a background in Art History and a keen understanding of the zeitgeist. With a plethora of enviable skills and experience as a painter, writer, curator and tattooist, Baby employs her unique visual language and intuitive line work style to create contemporary tattoos and illustrations each with their own unique nod to the past.
Artist Statement: Found object – a natural or discarded object found by chance and held to have aesthetic value (first known use in the art world – 1936). Collecting and building became a ritual while traveling – an action to anyone else that seemed out of the ordinary, literal trash, was in fact, bringing me closer to the reason. To learn to see everything, feel everything and to find a way to express what I was experiencing. The connection to the streets, I walked, the people I met, and the treasures I found made the loneliest softer. During this time, I never felt alone.
