Artist Statement: “Whilst this is somewhat of a departure from the visuals that usually attract me, it makes sense given the current situation in Melbourne… nothing is really normal. Throughout the current lockdown these flowers have been a constant symbol through regular walks along the Yarra. I’ve lived near and painted along the Yarra for many years and whilst these flowers have always been there, I’ve never really given them much attention. Strange that now through a government mandated lockdown we find ourselves looking at the world through fresh eyes, searching for small pieces of happiness and support in an increasingly frustrated community. Hopefully this image can serve as a lasting reminder of the positives that have come through this period.”
Artist Bio: A founding member of the Safehouse Studio and currently working from the renowned Everfresh Studio, Ling is a Melbourne based Graffiti / Street artist that has been adding colour to his surrounding environment for the past 18 years.
Known for producing large-scale murals, Ling looks to combine the aesthetics of traditional graffiti lettering with that of his childhood. With his formative years being through the late 80’s and early 90’s Ling often borrows imagery, colour schemes and subject matter synonymous with Pop culture from the era.
In addition to this Ling has continued to develop his studio practice, combining techniques developed on the street with those of traditional fine art. The outcome being finished art with bold colours delivered through aerosols and house paints combined with the refined details and textures of artist acrylics and inks.
