Revolver Upstairs is one of Australia’s most respected and recognised nightclubs. This cultural icon of the South is well known for its range of late night DJ spots showcasing Melbourne’s best DJs, as well as frequently hosting interstate and international touring acts. Although some can barely remember crossing paths with office workers on their lunch break as they leave the club on Monday, this spot has a reputation as the crown jewel of Chapel street, drawing in creative thinkers from across the globe to experience their own dose of self expression.
Since 2012, Just Another has been organising local, national, and international artists to paint the Revolver ‘Smokers Paradise’ laneway. Showcasing a range of different styles by emerging and established artists from across the world, this ongoing partnership has become a staple rotation of Revolver’s visual appeal and an unconventional gallery spot coveted by many. Every three months a new artist is invited to paint the smoker’s laneway as part of a continuing activation, a collaborative project of sorts, layering the walls with paint, stories, secrets, and memories akin to the gritty urban laneways of the CBD. With a fully open brief, the project aims to offer a platform where each artist can express their individual style and aesthetic for broad audiences in a totally unique setting.
