Harmony Carts is a permanent public artwork created for Botanical Village in Mickleham by Future Cultures, the collaborative practice of artists Katira and Lucy Lucy.
Commissioned as part of the village centre’s public realm, the project transforms two mobile carts into vibrant, hand-painted artworks that celebrate culture, connection, and community. Drawing on their multicultural backgrounds and shared commitment to cultural exchange, the artists created immersive works that invite visitors to pause, explore, and engage with the space in new ways.
Located within one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing and most culturally diverse communities, the artwork responds to the rich mix of cultures, stories, and experiences that shape Mickleham. Intricate patterns, botanical elements, and bold colour palettes weave throughout the designs, creating a visual language that reflects both the surrounding landscape and the diversity of the local community.
Patterns sit at the heart of Future Cultures’ practice, acting as a universal form of storytelling that transcends language and cultural boundaries. Through layered symbolism and contemporary aesthetics, Harmony Carts creates moments of discovery and belonging, transforming everyday objects into colourful landmarks that contribute to the identity and character of Botanical Village.
