The Street Art Studio transformed a vacant retail tenancy at Bayside Shopping Centre into a temporary street art destination as part of the Frankston Street Art Festival and South Side Festival.
We brought together large-scale murals by nine Australian artists, original artworks and public programming, deliberately blurring the line between street, studio and gallery. Rather than simply putting finished murals on a wall, the Studio gave audiences a chance to step into the creative process and see contemporary street art from a different perspective.
Original A2 artworks were embedded within the murals and later released through an online auction, creating a direct connection between the artists, the work and the people who came to experience it.
For us, the project was about taking an empty retail space and giving it a completely different purpose. For the duration of the festival, it became a working gallery, creative space and meeting point for artists, audiences and collectors.
