Rooted in the theme of growth, this mural by Melbourne-based artist Manda Lane brings new energy to the walls of the Kalkallo North Community Centre.
Developed in collaboration with the local community and supported by the City of Hume, the artwork celebrates the area’s natural environment and its steady emergence as a vibrant, evolving neighbourhood. Featuring a carefully selected mix of native species — Narrowleaf New Holland Daisy, Necklace Fern, Milk Maid flowers, and Eucalyptus leaves — the design honours both the ecological and communal growth taking place in the region.
A bold background, chosen through community consultation, adds warmth, optimism, and a sense of welcome — inviting residents to take pride in their shared space.
As part of the project, a mentorship opportunity was offered to an emerging creative. Sarah Louise was selected to assist Manda throughout the install, working side-by-side over four days to help bring the mural to life.
Bright, botanical, and deeply connected to place, Growth is a visual reminder of the things that take root when creativity, collaboration, and community come together.
