Artist: Kirpy

Title: ‘Lights out at the Nylex clock

Year Created: 2017

Artist Statement:The photograph for this painting was taken shortly after Heritage Victoria approved permits for the development of the Nylex Silos in 2017. The painting offers up some sort of attempt at preserving the silos in their current state. A last line of defence before the inevitable redevelopment and subsequent gentrification of yet another iconic and historic part of Melbourne.

Artist Bio: Kirpy has experimented with acrylic and aerosol for 15 years, developing his style and techniques on public walls and in studio spaces. As his practice has evolved, his paintings have migrated into gallery settings. His paintings depict latent
spaces around Melbourne, meticulously detailing unique architecture and textural qualities. The paintings function as a documentary time capsule, depicting transitional scenes of buildings and space in constant states of change and development.
